As we grow older....Missing

Picture taken at Oxbow Park

Missing

Missing from my pillow
In the deepest part of night,
Is the love and inspiration,
That takes my life to flight,
A simple joy and pleasure
A part of life not measured.

Like holding hands in evening
While the fire softly glows,
Little secret words spoken
Those only lovers know.
Time removed from our daily cares
A wistful note on life,
Where things are appreciated
As a relief from daily strife.

In youth we dreamt of the future,
All knowing, all positive of its outcome.
But in age much wiser now
So this simple truth we found…

Life does not go on forever
Though we strive to make it so,
So we must catch the ring of pleasure

Where ever it might go.

The walls of mankind.....

Walls

Beyond the eyes lies the wall of man,
His heart safe and warm, beyond other ken.
Hidden at length to prevent any pain,
Any sorrow or trouble, in lifes time of rain.

I wonder in passing if compassion is real,
For those people with walls, who swear that they feel,
When helping others with acts of kindness,
Hoping to show their open mindedness.
These people are truly fools;
For their kindness is shown by only their rules.

The vitality of life is a flickering candle,
Put behind our walls so that we can handle,
Any situation or person that feelings alert
Our mind to the fact that our heart might get hurt.

The cruel hard fact is...
Too soon life is gone,
And whatever we have to give
Has been ours all along.

The embodiment of all that we wish we could tell others
Is hidden beneath our walls and warm covers.
In moments of loneliness we wish we could say,
All the feelings and thoughts we once put away.

Our walls are things
We start in our youth,
When we fail to come to terms
With Gods honest truth.

TIME.......an enemy of all!

Time

Time is so perilous …

To the old and sickly,
To the youth whose dreams soon die,
To the soldier who can never return to his former being,
To the lonely who can never climb out of their thoughts,
To the petals of a flower that must fall,
To history that will never be remembered,
To hopes that are dashed,
To love that grows cold,

To us all as we return to dust!

Old tree planted by Thomas Jefferson

Life Eternal

The reality is this... All life starts, ends, & is reborn!

To some this concept is clouded,
To others this concept is flawed,
But into each new living thing
There comes a blueprint of
What was,
What is,
And what it will become.

As we pass to dust,
Even our ashes become new to the earth.
And these ashes feed the ground
That will spring another piece of...

Life Eternal!

Young Pilgrims on the shore.......

As children on the shore..

Oh! To be like children,
As they stand as Pilgrims
On the shore,
Waiting at the start of life.

The wind and warm breeze touch their cheeks,
They are unaware that the sands of time
Have started down the hourglass,
In the measurement of their days.

Unaware of the past and its history,
Encircled by lofty ideals,
Filled with dreams “a-plenty”,
Their time has come,
Yet they are unaware.

To you I wish life in its fullest;
To you I wish understanding
Of life’s uncertain ways.
And yet there is life everlasting,
Viewed in the shifting sands,
That will greet the generations in their day.

Silence prevails in the lonely north,
Where only wind whispers its thoughts to man;
Dreams of summer,
Dreams at night,
As the earth sleeps until awakened in the spring.

Rest and comfort by the fire,
Man lives away from winter cares.
While beasts outside
shiver and wait,
For the warmth and comfort of springtime air.

The solitude may be quite needed,
Rest for earth, this I know.
Yet deep within my soul,
Summer's warmth is what I long for,
Not winter's cold forbidding snow!

A light that once showed the way in the darkness....

Selkirk Lighthouse at Port Ontario

Now dark in the gloomy clouds of day,
This trusted light once showed the way.
Asleep in the ages and next to the lake,
A beacon to all a safe haven to take.

Now its uses are left to the few,
Who venture to take a picture or two.
But mighty its pull to a time once known,
When leading the way from peril it shown.

Awake from your sleep those that rest in the sea,
You are not forgotten by the likes of me.
Let this lighthouse bear witness to your life now gone,
A lasting testament to the history of those you left forewarned.

Following the Darkness to the Light!

The sunset approaches for us all!

I see the sunset coming closer with every day of my life.  This spot on Wellesley Island has seen it set for more years than I can know.  I sit and wonder how many people have sat at this shore before...in the same place...at the same time of day...and wondered how their life will end also.

I gaze to the Canada of today, though it appears at dusk the same as the Canada of "yesteryear".  The water the same rough and smooth.  The river the same..moving...moving...waiting to carry us all to the "light".  The light that comes to beckon us into the dark abyss of the here-after.
