To look to the Light!

The Inner Light

Sometimes when darkness falls around us,
We need to look to that inner light,
That piece of life endowed by the creator.
That spark that came with earthly life.

Too often darkened by the world around us,
Unable to be seen because of daily chores,
But when darkness falls around us,
We should think as that child once more.

To have the eyes we had as children,
Seeing the world through wonder bright and new,
Looking forward to new tomorrows,
Enjoying life and love and youth.

To the inner light we must return,
Leaving earth and cares behind,
We must look for spark we had as children.
For that is what keeps our soul alive.

Memories of the Past

Evening Tide - taken near Old Forge

Memories like cymbals clanging
In each empty corner of each room
Feelings left unfinished
Brushed aside to hide the pain
Of love

Time heals they say
But that is not so
It only deadens a heart grown heavy
And our life when filled with woe

It marks the channel of the oceans current
Changed by our tides ebb and flow
So out on this sea of life we sail
Not knowing the way wind may blow

Poems left for other lovers
Line by line written so
But memories prove unforgiving
In feelings that eyes do not show

Life is like a bottle
Set adrift at evening time
The ride it takes only guided
By the moon and earthly tides

With no control and no clear path
We wander shores of sand and sea
Always searching for love

And in the end find life’s realities

My Cat!

My Cheshire Cat

What type of cat can stay in one place?
With never a frown but a smile on his face?
Is he watching something that I can’t see?
Or is he just trying to out “psyche” me!

I’ll see if this string will divert his gaze,
And wipe that smile off his furry old face.
But all I get is a sideways glance,
As if I’ve lost “it” or really gone “bats”!

Maybe if I creep up and give him a nudge
I can wipe that smile off this overweight “pudge!”
But alas, in disgust, he gets up and moves,
Revealing that he just threw up on my shoes!

The Moon......on Green Lake..the dancer!

Moon on the water at Green Lakes State Park
Moon’s Shadow

Stargazers watch the swirling sky,
As dots of light go rolling by.
The sky’s dark envelope closes overhead,
As we watch in wonder and delight;

For the moon, our very fickle friend,
Will dance a dance for us tonight.
Shimmering, glimmering, moving but still,
As we lie on our backs at the top of a hill,
Dancing and prancing across the velvet sky,
The star show for us goes gaily by.

Hours pass, the night is still,
As we sit on our perch above the hill.
So beautiful and so hard to believe
That it's with a mere shadow you deceive.
Then slowly you pull the mask from your face,
And again bathe the earth with your silvery grace.

Young Pilgrims on the shore.......

As children on the shore..

Oh! To be like children,
As they stand as Pilgrims
On the shore,
Waiting at the start of life.

The wind and warm breeze touch their cheeks,
They are unaware that the sands of time
Have started down the hourglass,
In the measurement of their days.

Unaware of the past and its history,
Encircled by lofty ideals,
Filled with dreams “a-plenty”,
Their time has come,
Yet they are unaware.

To you I wish life in its fullest;
To you I wish understanding
Of life’s uncertain ways.
And yet there is life everlasting,
Viewed in the shifting sands,
That will greet the generations in their day.

Silence prevails in the lonely north,
Where only wind whispers its thoughts to man;
Dreams of summer,
Dreams at night,
As the earth sleeps until awakened in the spring.

Rest and comfort by the fire,
Man lives away from winter cares.
While beasts outside
shiver and wait,
For the warmth and comfort of springtime air.

The solitude may be quite needed,
Rest for earth, this I know.
Yet deep within my soul,
Summer's warmth is what I long for,
Not winter's cold forbidding snow!
